A great way to combine studying with a holiday - general English lessons plus activity sessions with your teacher. An 'English Plus' course is specially designed for those who want to enjoy a study holiday.

Choose from:

Guided Sightseeing - Learn about the history of Britain with your teacher and visit some of England's famous historic sites, from the ancient mythical standing stones at Stonehenge and nearby villages to castles, cathedrals, Roman or industrial history. Alternatively, visit some of the most picturesque areas of England including the Cotswolds and the World Heritage City of Bath (please remember you should pay your entrance fees to the sites of interest).

Walking - Discover the beautiful British scenery with a teacher who shares your love of walking. From the coastal footpaths of Cornwall to the dramatic mountains of the Lake District you can improve your English whilst exploring the area with your teacher on foot. All walks are planned with the student so will vary in length and ease.

Cookery - Refine your culinary skills with an English teacher who shares your interest in European cookery. Research regional dishes, plan menus, shop for ingredients (including visiting an organic farm, farmer's markets and speciality food shops) and prepare meals alongside the teacher. Give a dinner or luncheon party with your teacher at the end of your stay.

Art and Design - Study English whilst also learning about art history and visiting some of England's famous galleries in London and the West Country with a teacher who shares your interest in art. This course includes opportunities to paint or draw areas of interest and your tutor will share their knowledge and skills and help you to develop your confidence.

Flower Arranging - This course uses additional tutors to show you how to make beautiful arrangements simply and easily. You will learn the techniques of flower arranging and acquire skills whilst learning and practising your English with native speakers.

Gardening and Visiting English Gardens - This course is for students who wish to improve their English at the same time as visiting and learning about the many historic gardens in this area with teachers who share your interest in gardening, and who know a lot about England's famous classic English gardens. Visit world-famous Stourhead; see the formal Edwardian Gardens designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens at Hestercombe; and at Prior Park Landscape Garden see the beautiful Palladian Bridge and grotto created with the help of the poet Alexander Pope and Capability Brown. You can visit Elizabethan houses in Britain with formal gardens; delightful cottage style gardens; old fashioned rose gardens; walled gardens; herb gardens; scented gardens ... there are many, many to choose from!

Jane Austen's England - A 'Jane Austen's England' course combines all the advantages of learning English in your teacher's home with the opportunity to visit places described in Jane Austen's novels. Explore the beautiful city of Bath, famous for its wonderful architecture and the setting for 'Persuasion' and 'Northanger Abbey'. Visit the Roman Baths, a great attraction for the rich in the 18th and 19th Century who bathed the health-giving hot springs; see the Pump Rooms, where the visitors drank the famous water and met their friends; visit the Assembly Rooms where people danced, ate and socialised and visit the Theatre Royal built in 1805 and described in 'Persuasion'. We will also take you to the magnificent Montacute House, where 'Sense and Sensibility' was filmed and picturesque Lacock Village which is the setting for the film 'Pride and Prejudice'. Your teacher will be able to talk to you about Jane Austen and her work and your English lessons can include studying this author, the time that she lived and her books.
